Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you? Why have I never heard of Gate City Pride?
We saw a gap and we got to work. Gate City Pride began March 18th of this year with a phone call to Idaho Falls Pride for much needed advice. We are a small group of deeply dedicated Idahoans who believe in the power of a visible all-ages celebration of our community. We have a network of many more people all doing very important things. This adds up to what we hope you will agree is an affirming, supportive, safe and fun Pride festival for the City of Pocatello.
Can I perform at Pride this year?
This year we are actively trying to include a large range of our diverse and wonderful community. As part of that we are including a rather varied stage line-up, which includes live bands, drag queens, drag kings, a children’s magician, and of course local treasure Reading Time with the Queens. Due to the enthusiastic support from a wide range of our community, the stage is full for this year. If we were not able to include you, please know we are so very grateful that you are excited to support your local Pride festival, and know that we already have a date set for next year!
Who will enjoy this Pride event, and what is a Judgment-free ?s Booth?
We have made a very active attempt to include as many kid-specific, youth-specific, and family-friendly (but mainly of interest to adults) booths at Pride this year. In other words, there is plenty there with you in mind. We have a cutely named Rainbow Rascal Corner with most of our kiddo specific things right in one central location, and we built out from there.
One Booth we are very extra excited about is our Judgment-Free ?’s Booth. Are you a parent or loved one of someone who has come out? Maybe you have a lot of thoughts and feelings about that, or you don’t know the “right way” to talk about it. Then this is a great booth to start at. You can speak to another adult, and ask or discuss things that are new to you. Have an open dialogue without needing to know the right words. We will also be able to point you toward more resources to continue learning how to best support your loved one.
There’s a rumor…
Will Pride have ASL interpreters this year?
It is very true! We are actively seeking licensed ASL interpreters to more completely include even more of our beautifully diverse community! Due to the expedited nature of our Pride plans this first year, we want to make it very clear we only have one confirmed interpreter right now. We are still investigating options, and are fully committed to a staff of licensed ASL interpreters freely available to you, fully paid by Gate City Pride next year.
Did you say next year?
Yes. We plan to make a habit of this.
Will there be local churches represented at Pride?
Absolutely. To further include all aspects of LGBTQ life in Idaho, we felt very strongly it was important to reach out to a lot of people perhaps left out of some Pride events. We are thrilled to welcome a multi-church effort, with Pride-approved free activities for you to enjoy.
We think it will be inspiring to see so many faith traditions standing together and leading by example to protect our community. They will be happy to meet you just the way you are.

We will be so honored to see you at your local Pride this year. We’ve been working very hard to include important local resources, maybe some you didn’t know about.
Mental health, physical health, and community building are the things which began all of our Pride endeavors. It can be lonely and scary out there, and we hope you find connections and support at Pride this year.
We are still working on our own local resources page for this website, but we have linked to other organizations doing wonderful work in Southeast Idaho, so please check out our Resources page for links to some of them.
